Outback Queensland is an immense area of diverse landscapes and colourful Australian characters. With an abundance of minerals and opals, there are a number of mining towns throughout the Queensland outback. There are many activities to take part in on a visit to this area including gazing at the milky way in some of the clearest skies you will find anywhere. There is ancient dinosaur and fossil sites, wide open spaces, Spring wildflowers, remote bush pubs reminiscent of a 'Crocodile Dundee' set, rich grazing lands, and much more. Experience opal fossicking, farm life on a working station, tour an underground mine, or take part in scheduled events such as lizard races, camel races, or dunny derby's. Wildlife abounds in the Queensland outback and regular sightings of colourful Australian birds will amaze.

Outback Queensland is where you will also find the famous Australian 'Black Stump' at Blackall. Dagworth Station in Matilda County is where Banjo Paterson wrote Waltzing Matilda. Central West Queensland is where the great 'Shearer's Strike' of 1891 took place which led to the formation of the Australian Labor Party. In Blackall, the main street boasts a statue of Jackie Howe who was Australia's famous gun shearer. The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame in Longreach offers visitors an insight into rural life. The Hall of Fame pays tribute to Australia's pioneering men and women who explored and settled the great outback. Longreach can also lay claim to the famous bushranger, Captain Starlight, who stole and drove local cattle all the way to South Australia as depicted in the novel 'Robbery Under Arms'. The town of Birdsville is the starting point of the famous Birdsville Track and is also known for its pub and the annual Birdsville races. These horse races swell the population from 120 to 6000 in just two days every year.
