Back Home Up Next

Just north of Brisbane is the beautiful Sunshine Coast. When Brisbanites go on holiday it is usual for those from the southern suburbs to head for the Gold Coast while those from the northern suburbs head to the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast stretches from Caloundra in the south to Rainbow Beach in the north. It covers an area of underwater world1.jpg (7665 bytes)approximately 3200kmē   with a population of around 260,000.parfait1.jpg (8093 bytes)

It not only offers the expected sun, sand, and surf like its southern counterpart, but also has many other fabulous attractions. Forest Glen Sanctuary offers visitors the chance to hold a koala and hand feed deer. There is Moonshine Valley Winery, live beekeeping shows at Super Bee, the Bungee Bullet, Aussie World complex which features the famous Ettamogah Pub and beautiful Aboriginal Art, and the amazing marine life of Underwater World. The Big Pineapple is a favourite with tourists, where you can enjoy the most delicious parfaits and learn all about fruit plantations. Or why not picnic with the kangaroo's at Bunya Park Sanctuary. The Sunshine Coast is also home to the world renowned Buderim Ginger, the world's largest ginger factory, and tours of the factory are free. Nostalgia Town offers an insight into Australian history and, last but not least, visit the 'Crocodile Hunter's' Reptile Park.

There are several National Parks in this region including Noosa and Cooloola National Parks. There are wonderful waterfalls and walking tracks in the Mapleton and Kondalilla National Parks. For the craft lover, some of the best arts and crafts can be found in the Blackall Range craft villages such as Maleny. All this only about an hour north of Brisbane.
